Why use Micropac for Motorsport hydraulics?

Over four decades, Motorsport has used our hydraulics in the pits and back at base for testing, filling, tools and actuation.
Why would Motorsport use Micropac hydraulics?
Low mass and a very small space envelope are the starting point, we think. Teams have not got infinite space or the patience for heavy and bulky kit if you are a team and on the move. Our equipment can be customised for your application with adaptors, fittings and hoses plus the hardware to make the job easy. All our hydraulic pumps are designed and manufactured in our Salisbury, UK factory so Engineering Support is knowledgeable and immediate. We are passionate about our product.
The kit is cost effective and catalogue units on short lead time. No ridiculous deliveries that wreck your project.
Our kit is also high quality and will last for years. That counts quite a lot for Professionals.
How would you use Micropac pumps for Motorsport hydrostatic pressure testing?

Micropac TX 2 wheel service cart adds fitting and document stowage to our MR 2 wheel unit. Keep all the job knowhow in one place.
We supply hand pumps as component units for use with your fluid supply or reservoir. Alternatively, buy with an integral fixed or lightweight carry-around portable reservoir. Or look at the 2 wheel carts or the service cart that includes very neat integral fitting and document stowage. Fluids include mineral oils, fuels, brake fluids and water. Pressures run from 1 bar to 1000 bar, subject to the fluid. Tell us your application and we can offer compatible materials and seals. Plan your testing using our resources including sample pressure test procedures, risk assessments and pressure test certificates all on our web site.
How would you use Micropac pumps for motorsport filling and charging?
Again, we can offer a Micropac hand pump in the correct materials and elastomers to suit your application. Over the years, lots of customers have opted to organise their filling using a cart and pump rather than pouring from bottles and cans. It all depends on your operation. There are pros and cons on pumps/carts versus fluids in manufacturer containers. The biggest issue we have seen is more and more specialist fluids are only available in massive drums, so decanting them into something safer and no-spill is a big plus. Filling is one process that is essential in motorsport. Dirty funnels and careless tipping from cans have always been quite a challenge in oiling. Charging might involve filling then a small positive pressure applied by the hand pump. Or you are using a hand pump to bleed out a system with pressure applied by our hand pump to eliminate bubbles. We also have seen our kit integrated into a vacuum drain system, widely used in motorsport. A vacuum pump will pull out old fluid, the vacuum with draw in new. The hand pump can then be used to finish filling. We would start with a MP pump/reservoir unit and specify from there. That covers a range of pressures, displacements and reservoir volumes.
How can Micropac provide very easy and cost effective cycle testing for motorsport fuel tanks and structures?

Our Micropac PTR-A offers a very powerful programmable pump with touchscreen control for complex fatigue and cycle testing of fuel tanks, systems and structures.
Whether you are required to cycle test a fuel tank for approval or need to fatigue test a structure by loading it up with forces from cylinders 40K times, look at our Micropac PTR-A programmable cycle tester. It’s cost effective and is easily programmed using the touch screen controller. There is an integral hydraulic pump offering repeatable pressurise/hold/dump/dwell cycles up to 700 bar. A viable alternative to very expensive custom cycle testers.
Let’s look at four typical Micropac Motorsport applications. High pressure gasoline pressure testing, compact pit hardware, brake system filling and factory brake calliper conditioning.
High pressure testing of fuel systems on gasoline.
Two of the top F1 teams wanted ultra compact pressure testing for fuel systems trackside and factory. They were able to use a catalogue C10-2 cartridge pump and designed their own custom manifold to provide their functionality. Our pump provides a very small space envelope, reliability and serviceability. Can you hydrostatic pressure test on gasoline and other inflammable fluids? We are regularly asked this, so read our white paper.
A compact hand pump for a motorsport transmission jack for pit or base.
Our ultra compact MT cartridge pump unit is available as a complete MTM pump unit with check valves, a release valve to dump pressure and a relief valve to limit pump pressure. For controlled lifting, we also offer a pressure compensate flow control option in this unit. That’s invaluable where you need to let a load down in total control.
A top Works Rally team uses our kit for filling braking systems.
Again, small, dedicated fill and test units using Micropac pumps fitted the application. See our Micropac MC unit.
A supercar manufacturer cycling brake callipers before fitting to vehicles.
That’s cycling them multiple times on a customer rig using a hand pump. An interesting application, allowing the driver to actually feel the difference.
