Why would you use our Micropac YM miniature single lever marine pump?

The big features of the Micropac YM pump are a very small space envelope, low mass, marine application and an invaluable single lever pump/release operation, cutting out the conventional separate handle and release valve knob. The operator has just one control lever to operate a single acting cylinder. In the right application, that is just critical.

Our rugged single speed miniature marine hand pump head is used for small systems where a very compact space envelope and low mass is essential. The big feature is a single lever control for operators who don’t want to be pumping then releasing pressure with a rotary needle valve or second ball valve lever. Whether it is competitive pressure, safety or saving lives, this is a need to some users. The single lever control allows the operator to pump on the forward stroke and tip the handle back to release pressure. This eliminates a separate hold/release valve. That provides a very streamlined profile and deskilled method of operation for cramped locations or split second hydraulic needs. External parts in hard anodised marine grade aluminium alloy and 316 stainless. Optional carbon fibre handle.

You will require an external reservoir. This unit is ideal for systems using microbore hoses and miniature hydraulic actuators.

Typical applications are watercraft, yachts, high performance sailing dinghies, vehicle systems and defence.

This unit would normally be used to operate a single, single acting cylinder or actuator. Pump it out, leave the pressure to hold then push the handle to the release position to retract.

The other common application on this type of pump is control of multiple single acting cylinders. Either tee them into your common outlet, each with an isolating needle or ball valve or use a distribution valve with one inlet and up to four outlets. We can supply these. This circuit is commonly achieved as a panel with the hand pump shaft, a pressure gauge and the know for the distribution valve visible from the weather side. All piping is underneath the panel. We do supply our larger MPP marine panel pump module, which is available as a single speed unit or an automatic changeover two speed pump. The MPP unit is double acting, with flow on the upstroke and downstroke. On this unit, there hold/release is via a knob operated needle valve. The smaller YM unit is single acting and only produces flow on the down stroke. The hold/release valve to achieved by moving the handle beyond a sprung home position and into a release mode. Hence, the unit is single lever operation, a feature that is very valuable for certain applications like hydraulics in competitive sport or defence applications where time is critical.

Applications requiring operation of between one and four single acting cylinders on yachts, offshore installations, high performance sailing dinghies and defence applications in the field.

The single lever pump/hold/release function eliminates needing a pump handle and manual hold/release valve. That’s a very useful feature for cramped installations or users who are under real time pressure such as competitive sailing or defence.
