Micropac PSP 2 speed hydraulic hand pump.

Our rugged two speed pump for hydrotest, filling, jacking and OEM equipment. Industry interchange.

Why use this format of 2 speed hydraulic hand pump?

This format of pump has been an industry workhorse for years. Our PSP manual two speed pump for multi fluid hydrotest and as a hydraulic power unit offers interchange with Hydrapak, HMP & MHX pumps (Trademarks acknowledged.) A range of models and pressures is available up to 1000 bar. The unit is engineered for multiple fluid capability and has a rugged manual changeover valve. Users value this type of pump. We also offer an auto changeover version for OEM equipment and specialist applications. After 35 years, we knew how we would improve the offerings from the majors in the marketplace.

The heavy duty pump body and the rugged side mount handle shaft offer benefits over alternative handle and body configurations. The PSP will interchange with the Hydrapak, HMP or MHX.

Why would you buy a Micropac PSP 2 speed hand pump over a Hydrapak, HMP or MHX?

The PSP offers Micropac quality and value for money. It is 100% a UK unit.

Long service life and sustainability has always been a priority for Sarum Hydraulics. The PSP body is anodised aluminium alloy 6082T6 for corrosion resistance and light weight. All valve seats are replaceable and supplied in our inexpensive service kit. Users run these units for years and know that the parts are available.

Whether you are an end user or reseller we can fit fluorocarbon (“viton”) or epdm seals for skydrol, on short lead time and at low cost. That was important when we designed the PSP.

As a proven design with many years of service history, we believe that our PSP two speed hydrotest and hydraulic power unit pump is the benchmark product. Our unit will retrofit in place of legacy Hydrapak, HMP or MHX pumps.

Why would you use a two speed hand pump over a single speed unit?

We would always say look at single speed units first and do the sums for your application. Don’t home in instantly on two speed pumps. You will need to know the volume of the system, the pressure and most important, the change in pressure as you carry on pumping. For example, pumping up a system to pressure test starts at atmospheric pressure and slowly rises to test pressure. A two speeder will cut the number of strokes, subject to checking the numbers. Now look at a lift cylinder where the pressure may be exactly the same over the whole of the stroke. A two speed pump is probably of no benefit. Indeed, our MW series single speed pump will produce a higher flow as it is double acting, pumping on both strokes. Contact us and we will run the figures for you for your application. After 40 years, we are the experts.

Our Application Note explains the basics of evaluating and specifying a two speed pump. It also helps you understand manual versus auto changeover for different applications.

Our YouTube video explains two speed pump fundamentals.

Why would you use automatic changeover rather than manual changeover?

The pumps in this market have traditionally been manual changeover with a button on the side. Users seem to like the control and simply reliability of the manual valve. Professionals do worry about long term reliability on fluids other than water. Enerpac have sold a MP series two speed auto changeover pump for some years. Automatic changeover is an option on the PSP-A model to provide this feature for OEM users and specific applications where it is essential. For example, somebody operating an OEM press won’t want to stop and press a button.

The automatic changeover feature on 700 bar oil pumps has its own story which is explained in our 2 speed application note.
